Concert for SEA Team

“Musicians in Black” is on a roll- our fourth concert-for-a-cause in a row! This time we’ll be supporting Newsong’s South East Asia team. Check out their blog here.

The concert will consist of two sets- one featuring our unique soulful justice-charged songs, the second showcasing our instrumental jazz chops. Originals plus our re-imagined versions of Bob Dylan, U2 and others.

Giveaways, special guests, and a really crowded little coffee shop.

The show is at It’s a Grind Cypress - Valley View, just South of Lincoln. 7 to 9 pm.

Banquet at the Row

As part of it’s first annual “Origins” conference, Newsong church partnered with the Fred Jordan mission on skid row to put on a banquet for - and with- those who are living there. They blocked off the streets, decked out some tables, and served up some food and music. “Musicians in Black” played at the beginning and the end of the event. Each of us was struck by the jubilant receptiveness of the crowd.

We literally met our rhythm section 15 minutes before going on. Bryan and Key were a very pleasant surprise!

Our Jazz Quintet makes its second appearance on Friday, June 18th as part of the opening gala of Talent 1 Media’s 5th annual film festival. See some great indie films, hob nob with some hollywood people, support Rapha House and its role in fighting human trafficking, and hear some music.

We dubbed the group “Musician’s in Black” for this gig. It’s beginning to stick. Photos of the event on Facebook.

The film Call+Response drove home the point for me that modern day slavery is the issue for which history will judge our generation. I started looking for ways to get involved, and ended up not having to look further than my friends at our sister church in Mexico City. They’re starting up a safe house / rehab center for victims of human trafficking, and we’re putting on an event to get the house up and running. A whole slew of amazing talent has come on board to make this evening a feast for the eyes, ears, stomach and soul. Visit noc.newsong.net for more info.
