You know that film “School of Rock?”  That was me in 1988 (except I wasn’t a fake substitute teacher).  I formed a rock band with some kids from our youth group.  One day Roger Wun came in with a song based on Psalm 31.  I reworked it for this album to portray the inevitable times in a relationship where you lose your way.  It’s only by Grace that we can weather the rough times.

Have mercy on me, I can’t believe the mess I’m in

My eyes are weak with sorrow and I can't withstand the test I’m giv’n

I'm going down, down, down- down into despair

I need to know there’s somebody who’s always there

I put my life in your hands,  cause your love is endless

You are my rock- you are my fortress

Let your face shine- on the lies

Take me away- Take me to clear skies

My friends are gone- they've written me off

The trap is laid- and I am lost

I'm going down, down, down- down into the grave

I need you now- you're the God who can save

When they told me my job was to save the princes

They lied to me

And they lied when they said you could fall in love

When you're on TV

My eyes wander too far, my feet stray too close

to the traps set for my soul

They entice, they attack, they depress, I confess

It's dark down in this hole

Help my apathy, help my lethargy

Help my unrealistic idealism

Help my superstition, help my narcisism,

Help my fatalism
