I spent the summer of 1988 in a suburb of Mexico City doing Vacation Bible schools with some friends. I was struck that the Spanish verb Esperar has two very complimentary meanings. I connected that with the words of Psalm 40 and wrote this piece, originally for solo acoustic guitar.
